VMS Systems Administrator

We are currently engaged with a client who is seeking an VMS Systems Administrator on a consulting to possible full time direct employee basis. In this role, the individual will be responsible for:

Production support role including mid-level VMS system administration tasks.

Monitoring of Job Schedules, identifying problems, and escalating to development group.

Monitoring of Production FTP processes.

Movement of application code from Test to Production.

Role includes basic VMS system administration tasks, and individual will be part of a 24X7 on-call support rotation.

The appropriate individual will have demonstrated experience in the following:



OpenVMS System Administration
OpenVMS TCP/IP Communications
DCL scripting
System Logicals & symbols
System Dumps
User Account Maintenance
How executables are created from subroutines, main programs in the compilation process
Maintained a Job Scheduler (Tidal preferred) with several hundred jobs with timing and other job dependencies.
FTP Concepts
Knowledge in VMS application programming in Synergy a strong plus.

In Memoriam - Alistair King
MembersIt is with much regret that we have to announce the sad news that Alistair King died after a short illness on 6th May 2010.

Alistair was the Chairman of DECUS in the UK for many years and latterly was the Chairman of INTEREX-EMEA. He was also involved with the Advocacy Programme and was known widely in the HP User Community. He leaves behind a devoted wife and son. He will be sadly missed in his family and business life.

His funeral will take place on Friday 14th at 14:30 at Westall Park, Hollberrow Green, Worcestershire. B96 6JY. No flowers, donations to Cancer Research.

As can be seen there are some great presentations planned. We are looking for MORE! In the past there have been upwards of 100+ different sessions. We know the OpenVMS User Community and the Partners as well as the HP Office of OpenVMS Programs want to make this a very successful event. We encourage you to submit your sessions now!

By the way, speakers get a reduction in the registration fee! A $700.00 discount for speakers, $795 for the week versus $1,495. There are no fees for speakers who are only presenting sessions and not attending the Bootcamp.

You do NOT need to be a Connect Worldwide member to speak at the OpenVMS Bootcamp. Connect would love to have you as a member so you show your support for OpenVMS in their community, but we want anyone interested in presenting a technical session to attend!

CCSS Interactive Learning OpenVMS Basic Program with Certificate
NewsCCSS - Computer Consulting System Services in pleased to announce the availability of the "CCSS Interactive Learning OpenVMS Basic Program" an introductory level web-based training program for OpenVMS. The program includes four courses along with tutorial assistance; automated, on-line testing; OpenVMS laboratory systems (VAX and Alpha) and certificates for course completion and program completion.

The coursed included in the CCSS Interactive Learning OpenVMS Basic Program
are:

* Introduction to OpenVMS

* Introduction to OpenVMS Editors

* Introduction to DCL - Interactive Commands

* Introduction to DCL - Command Procedures


Three levels of certificates are available:

Certificate of Completion - finish a course with a score of 85%
or better with an average time of 30 seconds or less.

Certificate of Accomplishment - finish a course with a score of 95%
or better and an average time of 20 seconds or less.

Certificate of Achievement - finish a course with a score of 100%
and an average time of 15 seconds or less.


There is no time limit on the courses nor any limit to the number of times a student can take the test.

The training offered at CCSS Interactive Learning is offered at NO CHARGE. Additionally there is no charge for access to any of the course resources and OpenVMS laboratory systems available as part of the course.

Additional courses are under development by CCSS and will be announced as they become available.

Decuserve runs the batch job twice weekly, the next one should be 6:30 Monday. There is instructions in the help dialogs on EISNER on the details required by this site.
